T’eez-A Thomas Sena Salon to Honor Legacy of Omaha Hair Legend with Live Art Show Benefiting Lyal McCaig Image Recovery Center

T’eez-A Thomas Sena Salon, in cooperation with the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art and Nomad Lounge, plans on helping one Omaha hair legend, Lyal McCaig continue his life’s work—even in death.

On March 22, 2008 T’eez will present a live mixed-media show of hair and makeup at the Nomad Lounge, 1013 Jones Street in Omaha. The show, titled “…From the Art.” [a hair, make-up and art joint,] is a fundraiser to honor Lyal McCaig, businessman, educator, hairdresser and co-owner of the Capitol School of Hairstyling and Esthetics in Omaha, and his legacy at the Alegent Health Lyal McCaig Image Recovery Center.

The center, which opened in December 2007, is one of many throughout the country, the first of which was founded over a decade ago to help individuals of all ages whose appearance and self-esteem are affected while undergoing treatment and recovering from cancer and other serious illnesses. The center’s goal is to normalize the patients’ appearance in order to improve their quality of life. The patients learn to understand and prepare for the changes in appearance that can result from chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery. Consultations, prosthetic fittings, make-up lessons and many other services are provided free of charge.

“All consultations, prosthetic fittings, make-up lessons and many other services are provided free of charge,” said Sandra Yohe, Major Gift Officer Alegent Health Centers. “Items such as wigs, prosthetics, special garments and products are also available. I hope you can see how important it is to support this Event.”

McCaig taught that hairstyling could be inspired by, and should adhere to, the principles of art. That belief is what inspired Thomas Sena, owner of T’eez-A Thomas Sena Salon to create a show that embraced this philosophy.

“Art inspiring hair and style is one of the most important lessons I learned from Lyal Mcaig,” said Sena. “Once The Bemis agreed to help us out with art, I knew we would have the perfect hommage to Lyal .”

Sena and his staff will use pieces of art from the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art sponsored by area people and businesses to inspire hair and make-up creations. The Art will also be for sale. Bemis will donate a portion of sales to Lyal McCaig Image Recovery Center. A Silent Auction will also take place.
