Mission Statement
Good morning (west coast) and good afternoon (everyone else),
The purpose of this group was to keep everyone in the loop of what's going on in entertainment. Many of you may have heard of the Nebraska Coastal Connection which is a support group out here in L.A. for those from Nebraska or have that Nebraska spirit. This is going to work alot like that. I want it to be a place where people who are aspiring to get into the business can come and ask questions and/or get advice. It's also a place to share experiences and inform others of upcoming events, entertainment news and well...just to say hi.
My background is two fold really. I started out as a Project Consultant at Mutual of Omaha where I worked as a technical consultant/engineer. AFter 6 years with them, I moved to L.A. to pursue my passion...acting. Had a great time and experience at the New York Film Academy where I learned the ropes - directing, acting, improv, auditioning. I met a lot of wonderful people and established contacts I still use today. After 3 months of hard core training, I did get to make a couple of short films which, I have to say, was an incredible experience. But, as most actors experience, it doesn't pay the bills.
Enter E! Entertainment Television. After a few stints being a production assistant on some commercials and small projects I landed a gig wtih E!. Nothing much, but it was as a Media Assistant in the Media Library at the company. Again, met a lot of great people and eventually hooked up with a Producer that was willing to take me on her team. I started as a Production Assistant (which as many of you know is the bottom of the totem pole) but quickly became an Associate Producer with that strong Midwestern work ethic. Now, I fancy myself a writer as well so that helped. I worked on "101" specials for a year and then moved over to "Style Star" on the Style Network as an Associate Producer. Not the greatest atmosphere to work in, but nontheless, a great experience. After a year or so with that show I was recommended to the TV Guide Channel to direct/field produce a show called "Ready, Set, Change!" It's a home makoever show that was just the best experience in the world. I love directing and I love shooting my own stuff - so I was as happy as a fat man on a hooker (j/k). So, did that for a year and moved on to a Biography Show where I got to show off my writing skills a little more. The show is called "Close Up". I Produce/Write the show and have been doing it for over 2 years now - currently in our 3rd season. I also get to go meet stars at junkets (interviews), red carpets, events, etc...so it's an all around great job and I have a lot of room to move up.
I also have an agent that is currently trying to sell a couple fo treatments/scripts for me. Hopefully something will pan out, but if not I will keep on writing and plugging away.
So............alllllll of that being said, I hope I can shed some insight or offer advice to anyone who is looking to move out here or break into the business or whatever. And maybe one of you can offer me some advice, info, insight as well. Which, is why I wanted to start this thing in the first place.
I hope this helps to let you all know where I'm coming from. I am very loyal to my extended Nebraska family and will do anything I can to help out. EVeryone needs a help now and then...and I want to be the first to extend a hand if anyone needs it.
Sincerely, Scott R. Tomasso
